Why are Jeeps "Jeeps"?
With most car brands it's easy to figure out where the name came from. Ford with Henry Ford, Ferrari with Enzo Ferrari, and so on. So where did the name Jeep come from? It’s actually a bit of a mystery, with plenty of disagreement about the name’s origins.
One of the most popular theories is that Jeep is a phonetic pronunciation of “GP.”
In World War II, “GP” stood for General Purpose and was used for any of the vehicles that didn’t have a specific use. However other sources say that the "G" signified a Ford government contract vehicle and "P" indicating the 80-inch wheelbase.
